Paolo attended Shopify's first developer-only conference called Editions.dev in Toronto last week, as Shopify simultaneously dropped their "Summer Editions" batch of product and feature announcements. Here's our quick rundown...

While there were over 150 features released, there are some overall trends and a few things that really stand out.

First, there's a clear focus on expanding markets, with many of the features oriented towards content localization and advanced features for selling internationally. Adjacent to that, there are several new scale-oriented B2B features like more catalog capabilities, raised company profile member limits, and better support for Net10/30/etc terms.

Second, there are some significant advancements in shipping, with split shipments on offer (finally!) for the first time, so that customers can choose to consolidate or separately expedite items coming from multiple locations, each with their own costs. This may also have implications down the line for use cases like gifting, though for now it is contingent on your actual inventory locations being different.

Third, Shopify released developer and theme tools for increased placements for blocks, allowing additional extensibility in themes, app ecosystems, and checkouts -- all of which our dev team will plan to utilize in the months to come. Shopify also bought the Checkout Blocks app which is now free to Plus stores for the basic plan. This allows a faster running start to doing light customizations in checkout, including upsells.
